“You really have such wonderful products. I love how simple they are to construct and how the colors are so bright. My five-year old daughter came home from Sunday school with the most beautiful tzedaka box that she decorated. She is very excited to collect tzedaka for a class project they are working on. This is the first time she has her own tzedakah box (we have 3 in the kitchen however). She absolutely ADORES cats and dogs so she might donate to an animal shelter and also give to a children’s hospital.
She and her older brother are very good about giving tzedakah. During the summer of 2005 the kids had a lemonade stand and they made $8. I had them split it and each give $1 to tzedakah, which they did willingly (I’m really very surprised; I’m not the kind of mom who says my kids are perfect and never give me an ounce of trouble, as you know I’d be lying!). But giving back is important to me and to my husband, so we’ve made it important for the kids as well. We’re trying to teach them how we have SOOOOOO much, and so many people have far less. Not an easy task but we try to make giving tzedaka part of daily life – one of their rewards for doing all the stuff they are supposed to around the house is additional tzedakah. They each get an allowance and they have to budget to give tzedakah each week.
As a professional organizer, I am very practical as well as visual. Children’s rooms tend to be their own little homes and can become cluttered very quickly. Having their own tzedakah boxes, which they made themselves, provides them with the right container for their change, gives them a sense of pride in their creativity, and instills in them the value of community responsibility….”
